Devo
Produced by Brian Eno, 1978’s “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!” ignited underground fame with its call-to-arms sound. DEVO’s unconventional image and themes sparked both admiration and criticism. “Duty Now for the Future” (1979) followed with more success. “Freedom of Choice” (1980) marked a peak, yielding the hit “Whip It” and iconic video. Albums like “New Traditionalists,” “Oh NO It’s DEVO!,” “Shout,” and “Total Devo” led to extensive 1980s touring. In 1990, they shifted focus from music to film and TV.
