"Moon Goddess" Storytelling

Parents, bring your little ones to the enchanting Moon Goddess storytelling event at the Chinese Garden of Friendship during this year’s Moon Festival. This captivating experience is inspired by a legendary tale that dates back over 2,000 years.

This family-friendly storytelling session will transport you into the magical world of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess, and her loyal companion, the Jade Rabbit. As the story unfolds, children will be immersed in the rich tradition and lore surrounding this ancient legend. With dynamic narration and engaging actions, the storytelling promises to be an unforgettable experience for all.

The Moon Goddess Story:

Long ago, the Jade Emperor lived in a palace in the sky with his ten mischievous sons who turned themselves into ten blazing suns. Their playful antics made the earth unbearably hot. To save the world, Houyi, a skilled archer, shot down nine of the suns, restoring balance and making him a hero. The Jade Emperor rewarded Houyi with a magical elixir of life from the Queen Mother of the West. However, when the elixir was threatened by an evil man, Chang’e, Houyi’s wife, drank it and floated to the moon, becoming the Moon Goddess. Legend has it that Chang’e lives with a jade rabbit, making the elixir of life. On a bright moonlit night, you might spot them and even the eternal woodcutter Wu Gang, who was condemned to chop a giant tree on the moon forever.
