What’s on in Darling Harbour? There’s always a party at Bungalow 8.
Ever felt the need to escape the fast-paced surroundings of Sydney? Who hasn’t. Thankfully, in the heart of Darling Harbour, there’s a place that puts the ‘top’ into ‘tropical’ - Bungalow 8.
A sun-drenched sanctuary and beer garden by day and a dance club by night, Bungalow 8 is one of the best places to go in Sydney for a true waterfront experience.
This is Bungalow 8
Bungalow 8 is a bar and restaurant located in King Street Wharf, right across the water from the famous Australian National Maritime Museum and practically next door to the SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. This makes it one of the best places to go to refuel during a big day out with the kids, while its prime position next to more of the best bars in Sydney also makes it perfect for a stop in during night time adventures. It’s truly a harbourside playground for all ages.
Sit out in the beer garden to soak in some rays and sip a beverage, or sit inside and drink in the nature-inspired decor. Bungalow 8 is very much tiki-inspired, so expect to be wow’d by plenty of greenery and some over-the-top furnishings that still manage to exude class, day or night. Try to secure a seat outside under the flax-roofed tables for the full experience.
The Bungalow 8 experience at Darling Harbour
Bungalow 8 is all about the seafood, with crab spaghetti, crispy skin salmon, fish & chips and its iconic fish tacos being some of the most popular dishes. However, there’s more just as much turf as there is surf, with classic club sandwiches, chicken schnitty and chicken wings on the menu too. It’s not just savoury either: satisfy that sweet tooth with one of two delicious dessert waffles. Our favourite is the berry waffle, with berry compote, vanilla ice cream and fairy floss.
It wouldn’t be a Bungalow 8 visit without refreshments, however, and this is where Bungalow really shines. There are heaps of local and international wines by the glass and beers on tap, but you’d be missing out if you didn’t try one of their signature cocktails.
There are all the classics like Aperol spritzes, negronis and long island iced teas, but Bungalow mixes up some of their own delicious takes. This includes their aptly named Fresh Coconut Cocktail, made simple, fresh and refreshing with white rum, coconut water and vanilla sugar syrup. Or, for those who’d like to try a twist on the familiar, ask for their Taste of Bali Daiquiri for the week. Our fingers are crossed for banana.
What’s on at Bungalow 8
When the sun sets, this laidback Bali-inspired sanctuary turns into party central, featuring DJs spinning fresh tunes and even fresher cocktails, with a lounge to enjoy the latter and a dance floor to swerve to the former.
