Weaving Workshop

Connect with culture through this unique weaving workshop across Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, and The Rocks!
Looking for a unique and hands-on experience that celebrates Sydney’s rich Aboriginal heritage?

Discover the traditional art of weaving, a skill that was integral to the daily lives of local mobs around Warrane (Sydney Harbour).

Connecting the Sydney foreshore areas, Barangaroo, Tallawoladah (The Rocks), and Tumbalong (Darling Harbour) through the shared experience of this traditional craft, our workshops led by the incredible women of Ngumpie Weaving, offer a blend of practical skills and cultural insights.

Each week you'll have the chance to hone your weaving skills starting from the basics, and then exploring more complex designs, creating your own stunning woven pieces to take home.

No need to reserve your spot, just turn up and enjoy the chance to discover a new skill, connect with your community, and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of our city.

Ngumpie Weaving: A Weaving Business

Ngumpie Weaving, founded by Barkindji artist Tegan Murray, is dedicated to sharing the beauty and tradition of Indigenous weaving with a contemporary approach. Tegan's connection to her ancestral lands, spanning the Coomealla, Lake Victoria, Mungo, Yorta Yorta, and Duduroa regions, deeply informs her craft. Inspired by her mother, she creates unique jewelry and wall art, each piece a reflection of her cultural heritage and personal story.

More than a business, Ngumpie Weaving serves as a platform for cultural education and connection. Through workshops, school visits, and corporate programs, Tegan teaches the art of weaving, fostering understanding and appreciation for Indigenous traditions. Her mission is to break down barriers through her craft, creating meaningful connections and promoting Indigenous craftsmanship.
