Do Like a Dugong

Visitors will use their senses to explore the mysterious underwater world of dugongs in the new Dugong Island at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium.

From 1 January 2017 To 11 October 2018

Visitors will use their senses to explore the mysterious underwater world of dugongs in the new Dugong Island at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. The brand new experience allows guests to walk amongst an underwater shipwreck while admiring the only pair of dugongs on display in the world!

Did you know dugongs are closely related to elephants? Or that they can live to over 75 years old? And that long ago sailors once thought they were mermaids? These are just some of the fun facts visitors will learn in the new interactive Dugong Island experience. The renovation of Pig and Wuru’s new tank also includes a unique interactive display that allows kids and parents to hear, speak and see like a dugong. Also part of their new home is the world’s first dugong scent device that gives visitors a taste of the dugong smell.

What’s more, kids and adults alike will meet Pig and Wuru, the aquarium’s two rescued dugongs, and get to know the not-so-little orphans’ unique personalities and amazing life story.

For an even more interactive and exclusive experience, Dugong Island will also give visitors the opportunity to feed Pig and Wuru in the aquarium’s Behind-the-Scenes Tour. Offered twice daily, the Behind-the-Scenes Tour and dugong feeds will include interaction with marine biologists, preparing food for Pig and Wuru, walking the Dugong Island ‘Plank’ to gain exclusive access to Pig and Wuru’s enclosure. The 45 minute Behind-the-Scenes Tour also consists of a fish feed above Shark Valley, feeding the rays in the Bay of Rays, a visit to the coral farm where you learn how we generate coral life and a trip to see where we prepare the feasts for the world's largest collection of Australian marine life. This exclusive offering is available daily and advanced bookings are required.

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium will also host fun, kid-friendly activities including a treasure hunt, daily interactive dugong talks, an educational craft event and more.

And if the kids can’t get enough of the new Dugong Island, the Merlin Annual Pass, offering 12 months unlimited entry, is perfect for endless undersea adventures with Pig and Wuru and the aquarium’s 13,000 other ocean stars.
